It’s the end of a decade! With that comes a perfect time for a challenge. This one is about reflection which can help to anchor us into the present moment. We spend so much of our time thinking about the future it’s hard to remember to enjoy what’s happening RIGHT NOW!
So I’m inviting you to do a little exercise with me. First up pick a word that represents your 2019. Don’t rush this. Take a moment to pause, scanning through the months and the lessons they brought. What was this year all about for you?
My word for 2019 is vulnerability. This was the first year of motherhood for me and that meant getting to know myself in a way I couldn’t have imagined before. It meant getting comfortable being vulnerable and for a girl who prides herself on being strong, independent and able to handle anything this was no mean feat!
Yet embracing being vulnerable has made me accept myself on a whole new level and I’m way happier for it. If anyone has seen Brene Browns talk on this they will know that allowing yourself to be vulnerable takes way more courage than not.
So have you got your word for the year?
Ok next - you may have guessed it - pick a word that you want 2020 to represent.
My 2020 word is visibility. I returned to coaching back in March with a few weeks break since but I’ve shared very little of that publicly. It was only when a friend asked if I was working that I realised this. It’s indicative of how much has shifted. When I was pregnant it dawned on me how centre stage my career had been and that it overshadowed every decision I made. There’s nothing like a tiny human to put things into perspective!
That doesn’t mean that I love or care for my work any less than I did previously. I’ve simply learnt to keep it in balance with the rest of my life. I needed to retreat and go within this year, to be present for my little girl and to learn about who I was without all the ego trappings of what I do in the world. Our identities are so heavily entangled with our careers I had no idea who to be without it at first but the experience has made me much more authentic and grounded in myself.
Next year is about a different type of expansion, one where I’m more visible than before - which means you’ll be hearing a lot more from me - starting with a new challenge I’ve created for January 2020! Every day you’ll receive a new coaching task to dig a bit deeper into who you are and what you want from life. It might be a small mindset you want to change or a big vision you want to develop for the future, this challenge will help you get a holistic look into your life and feel inspired, motivated and supercharged.
